55 minute duet

Choreography by BJP
in collaboration with dancers

Performance by Sergio Guerra Abril and Dylan Lambert

And Now, or Hold Me is the final project in BJP’s trilogy of relational duets. In process since January of 2019, And Now, or Hold Me examines relationships with self, other, and place through the lens of socially informed spaces, and therefore socially informed presentation of self. Development stages include voice, text, props and movement structures involving contemporary, urban, and highly physical partnering vocabulary. The container for choreographic and physical experimentation is the colloquial concept of “holding space” – we’re interested in what this means, if it’s real, how we do it, who does it for us, how it articulates with the sociocultural settings that we inhabit and move through, and how this impacts the version of ourselves we may be performing at any given moment.  Currently, the projected final work will be a non-linear trek through these spaces, and consequently through the performed variations of self. The performers will hold space for each other, hope that the audience will hold space for them, and then will question the meaning of space altogether.
